Chapter 4

The next few weeks were very trying on both Bam and Jess. Luckily it was the end of CKY’s tour, so Jess was able to convince the band to take a month off before heading to the studio to finish the album.

Bam was still having a hard time dealing with life in general and Jess was making sure Bam was okay the whole time which was very stressful to say the very least.

Bam continued to push everybody away except Jess. This caused a little trouble and caused the others to snap at Bam a few times not realizing how much it hurt him.

"God Bam! What the hell is your problem? Can't you act civil for a few minutes?" April snapped when Bam ignored Phil's attempt to cheer him up.

Phil had left the room looking a little bewildered from Bam's blunt responses and April had enough.

April left quickly missing the hurt look that flashed across Bam's face quickly and the small tears that trickled down his cheek but Jess was there to see them both.

"Why am I doing this?" Bam exclaimed through the tears that now streaked his cheeks. Jess quickly pulled Bam into a hug and the younger man cried into his shirt.

"Tell them. They can help you, Bam." Jess suggested as gently as he could.

"I can't. I just can't." Bam sobbed. Jess sighed silently cursing his mother and making a mental note to talk to her later. As soon as Bam had calmed down and gone off to find Phil to apologize, Jess set out to find April.

"Jess, not now." April greeted when she saw her son. Jess scoffed in disgust and April heard it. "Look, I'm a little stressed right now, leave me alone!" April told him angrily.

"Like you left Bam alone?" Jess challenged.

"He deserved that! He's been so incredibly inconsiderate and moody lately! Your father did nothing to him! Why was he acting like such an assie?" April retorted.

"He's not acting like anything! He's just going through some stuff right now! And you being on his back about little things doesn't help!" Jess was almost yelling now.

Jess was incredibly mad at April for hurting Bam, and under any other circumstance he would never he think of yelling at his own mother but he just needed to yell at someone for awhile and April just happened to be right in front of him.

April, on the other hand, was mad that she couldn't help Bam get out of whatever funk he was in, that he couldn't help Bam with whatever was wrong.

She was his mother, and moms were supposed to make things better. She also needed to yell at someone. The two of them didn't know it but they were acting as each other's therapy.

They continued screaming for awhile both releasing their anger on each other. Unbeknownst to them, Bam was just around the corner, listening to every word.

Finally, Bam couldn't take it anymore. He raced up to what used to be his room before he moved out, curled into a ball and started sobbing uncontrollably.

April and Jess were still fighting when Bam fled but it didn't last much longer. Jess felt all his anger and frustration building up, until finally he couldn't take it anymore.

"God Dammit!" Jess yelled letting himself explode. He turned away from April in anger and began punching the wall until his first went through it.

It was then Jess realized tears had began to stream down his cheeks. April saw something change in her son. He went from being angry at her to something else entirely that April couldn't quite put her finger on.

It shocked April to see Jess acting so violent and when Jess punched through the wall April came to her motherly senses.

"Jess! Calm down! You're going to hurt yourself!" April exclaimed pulling Jess away from the wall. April saw the tears on Jess's face and felt hera nger suddenly evaporate.

She hadn't really been mad at Jess in the first place anyway, just mad at life and stressed out.

Jess let April pull him away from the wall. He then slid to the floor and buried his face in his hands as the everything caught up with him.

April was completely shocked when Jess began to sob and had no clue what brought it on or what she should do about it. April’s motherly instinct finally kicked in and she just wrapped her arms around Jess and let him cry his heart out.

Jess had needed to do ever since Bam had come to his hotel room that night. When Jess calmed down he just sat there, unsure of what to say to his mom, how to explain it. April, almost sensing Jess's uneasiness, was the first to speak.

"Are you alright?" April asked gently, forgetting entirely about being mad. Jess slowly nodded.

"Yeah, I'm okay. I'm fine, but Bam isn't." Jess replied softly trying to tell his mom to lay off Bam for awhile. Jess let out a sigh and got up.

"Jess, what's wrong? What's going on?" April asked from where she was still sitting on the floor. Jess slowly turned to look at her.

"It....it's not my place to tell you, Ape." Jess answered.

"Why? Why can't you tell me? Jess, we're all worried sick about Bam too. We just want to help. I’m his mother." April told Jess. Jess only sighed.

"I...I can't tell you, Bam has to tell you when he's ready to. But please, until then cut him a little slack. You don't know how much it hurts him when you yell at him. You don't see it but I do." Jess explained, looking to mother for a response.

"Alright, but if anything gets really bad or out of control you can come to me. You know that, right?" April asked. Jess gave him a small smile.

"Yes, mommy. Who would of thought that when things get out of control their mommy can fix it." Jess replied trying to lighten the mood. April cracked a small smile.

"But seriously, if things get out of hand tell someone, please." April told Jess.

"I know, mom. I know that." Jess replied. He gave April a hug which April returned. "Thanks, though." Jess told her. April smiled.

"I’m a mom it’s my job." April replied in a joking manner.
